Minimum Wage Increase, Workforce Housing and Home Heating –
In two short years in the State Senate:
• Senator Janeway worked to raise the minimum wage from $5.15/hr to $7.25/hr, the first increase in 11 years.
• He supported the passage of two bills, SB 199 and SB 342, which encouraged the development of workforce housing; a mutual goal of the Legislature and the Business and Industry Association.
• He supported Governor Lynch’s $12.1 million home heating and weatherization assistance package. The program will help low-income families pay for home heating this winter and encourages long-term savings by offering subsidized weatherization improvements. The money will allow the State to initiate the assistance program before the federal allotment of LIHEAP money arrives.
• Senator Janeway protected customers who pre-buy their heating oil by requiring proof from oil distributors that they have the ability to fulfill their contracts.
